Why Use A Magnifying Lamp?

Magnifying lamps are a real aid to anyone who needs to needs to see small things more clearly. They can be used for various hobbies, professions and even just to enable you to see what you are reading more clearly.

If you're into model making or needlework like cross-stitch, then using a magnifying lamp will save you an awful lot of unnecessary eye strain. And it has to be said that the older you get the more difficult it becomes to get things into focus when you're working on small details.

Most people have hobbies to help themselves relax. But if you're continually struggling to put the needle through the correct hole in a particularly fine Aida fabric while doing some cross-stitch it's not exactly relaxing. The same goes if while you're model making you're trying to glue something small and fiddly into place and you keep dropping it, you'll just end up feeling frustrated and annoyed. By using a magnifying lamp you can end all this frustration by being able to see what trying to do in wonderful detail.

Reading can also be problematic. You may see perfectly well for the most part but when you sit down to read that print is just too small to read comfortably unless you bring it up close to your face, which isn't the ideal way to sit and read. A magnifying lamp will allow you to sit in your chair or at a desk and be able to read the book without holding it at some impractical distance from your face.

But it's not just the fact that everything is magnified that makes seeing things easier, the lamp also is very important. Unless you're working, reading, etc by a window on a sunny day your eyes will have to work harder. Magnifying lamps illuminate the area that you are looking at, allowing you to pick out all the detail without the eyestrain. The bulbs used in these lamps are cool ones so that you don't have to worry about the amount of heat they give off.

These lamps come in a variety of styles including ones which can clamp onto desks, or can be stood on the floor. They also come in different strengths. Cheaper lamps with low magnification of around 1.5 to 1.75 are probably best used for activities like reading or drawing. For fine needlework you may need something higher depending on your eyesight. Craftspeople like jewellers will need to have much higher magnification but the higher the strength the more you'll need to pay.

It's amazing how long people will struggle on trying to do things they used do so easily just a few years before. As we age our eyesight deteriorates and that's why using a magnifying lamp will prevent all those many hours of frustration when things seem to start getting too small to see properly.
